Marengo was originally built in 1837 in Autauga County. but in 1847, the house was dismantled and moved across the river and reconstructed in its current location in Lowndesboro, Alabama. The house is owned by the Lowndesboro Landmarks Foundation. Leslie Bailey, owner of "Silver Spoon" & "Extraordinary Event Planning," became the proprietor of Marengo in the summer of 2007 to develop it as a wedding and event venue.

The Magic of Marengo

Leslie Bailey, owner of Silver Spoon Caterers, became the proprietor of Marengo in the summer of 2007 to develop it as a wedding and event venue.   Sharing photographs taken since then, I plan to chronicle the continuing transformations to the house and include photos that capture some of the fun and enchantment that has come to be known as "The Magic of Marengo"....thanks in large part to Leslie's unique personality and style.

To provide some perspective for this project, I'd like to begin with a few interior shots of this beautiful old home... including some before and after photos.  I took the "before" photos when my daughter and I visited Marengo in February 2007 as a possible site for her wedding.   The "after" photos reflect changes Leslie has made since she moved into the house later that year.  Photos not labeled as before or after show the rooms that have retained the decor provided by the Lowndesboro Landmarks Foundation.  Subsequent posts will show these and other rooms decorated for holidays, weddings, and special events.

Photos were taken between February-September 2007.  Click on the photos for larger viewing.  Enjoy!
