Marengo was originally built in 1837 in Autauga County. but in 1847, the house was dismantled and moved across the river and reconstructed in its current location in Lowndesboro, Alabama. The house is owned by the Lowndesboro Landmarks Foundation. Leslie Bailey, owner of "Silver Spoon" & "Extraordinary Event Planning," became the proprietor of Marengo in the summer of 2007 to develop it as a wedding and event venue.

Christmas at Marengo 2007

Well, yes, I do realize that these photos were taken three Christmas seasons prior to this posting date.  It's all part of my master plan to document my very personal and professional view of Marengo that began 3 years ago.  This was our first Christmas to decorate for the holidays.  It was no small task -- I counted 11 decorated trees in the house that year -- and, in spite of being bone-weary after we finished, it was the most fun I've ever had decorating a house for Christmas.  I've selected a few of the photos I think show the house off to best advantage.... enjoy!!

Fondly,
